Roma FC have their first match against Rising Stars

Brendan’s Bridge has been working with young people from the Czech Gypsy and Roma community to put together a football team.
The team, who have called themselves Roma FC, had their first friendly against Barton and Tredworth Football Club Rising Stars.
Roma FC, comprising lads from 16 to 19, beat the Rising Stars 3:1. But, more importantly, they enjoyed the first match proper after weeks of informal practice.
There is a high number of Gypsy and Roma families in the Barton and Tredworth area – speaking mainly Roma or Czech. The boys have been keen to put a football team together for many years and now they are looking for a permanent pitch where they can play.
Rising Stars have promised a return game in the next few weeks.
Funding for this pilot team was given by Gloucestershire County Council as part of their summer programmes. Samko Lukas and David and Martin Saraj worked with Brendan’s Bridge to get this project under way.
